I'm not certain this is the place for a post like this, but I need to share it somewhere so you win!
You may or may not know that we are the parents of the worlds most gorgeous doggo - Seymour Butts 😂💞 now this boy has not come without his challenges, we look back on when he was a wee pup and he wouldn't walk unless two people were with him, wouldn't do this that and the other. He's a reactive boy and we've tackled everything over the two and half years we've had him 🩷 we love him to bits!!!!! Believe me when I say that if we didn't, I don't think we would've gotten this far
But anywaaaaay
He's a sufferer of the ol' dog separation anxiety - and we've worked on this forever and never seemed to get anywhere. Controversial (apparently, idk why) but we started him on fluoxetine. Now this isn't actually to treat anything I've previously mentioned..he was castrated (something we wouldn't have done except he was cryptorchid so its highly highly recommended) anyway, he got completely traumatised from the surgery and the recovery and developed himself a compulsive disorder (when I tell you we've been through it all with our boy, I'm not lying 😅)
Fluoxetine is actually a separation anxiety drug (when used in dogs) - so we thought there might be some trickle over positive effects for helping us train him with that as well (but the main point of getting it was to help is compulsive disorder which was taking over his and our lives) and boy is there! We've done training gradually as we always have with his training as it helps it stick but I can now confidently leave for 30 mins!!!!!! If you've never had to deal with severe separation anxiety in dogs, you truly do not understand how phenomenal that feels and the immense pride I feel in him
He's so much work (and again, if you don't have a dog like this, you won't fully be able to understand but if you do have a Sey Sey at home, you get me 🫶) but we love him to the ends of this earth and back one hundred million times - he's worth every frustrating moment, every happy moment, all the cuddles in the world 🩷
